La bibliografia a cui noi ci attenemmo "Cenni Storici sulle famiglie di Padova, e sui monumenti dell'università, premesso un breve trattato sull'araldica", stampato in Padova, coi tipi della Minerva nel 1842, riferisce essere questa una nobile ed antica famiglia di origine Veneta, ove occupava co' suoi discendenti le cariche di quelle città. Nei tempi antichi, il cognome non era obbligatorio; si usava dire e scrivere, per esempio in tal modo: Zuane fio de Piero da Mestre. Per tali motivi la famiglia Mestre prese il cognome dalla cittadina prossima a Venezia, da dove era originaria. Lo stesso si può asserire per questa famiglia.
