Antica famiglia originaria e patrizia di Siena, da cui si trapiantò prima in Roma e quindi in L'Aquila. In Siena le sue più antiche memorie rimontano al 1238, anno in cui fioriva un Viano, che sedeva nel supremo magistrato di Siena. Nel 1261 i Mignanelli, in unione ad altri dal partito guelfo, disgustati del governo dei Signori ventiquattro, emigrarono dalla patria e ripararono a Radicofani ma la Repubblica mandò loro dodici ambasciatori per scongiurarli a far ritorno in patria. Landò di Ildobrandino, nel 1284 fu uno dei quattro provveditori del Comune e, nel 1294, Ranieri, monaco di S. Galgano, ebbe il camerlengato dello stesso. Furono provveditori del Comune: Nanni di Meuccio nel 1376, Pietro di Bando nel 1379, Giacomo di Pietro nel 1390.
