Così la leggenda. Sono da ricordare Cante de' Gabrielli, protospatario di Alberico, marchese di Toscana, il quale per aver liberato Stefano VIII assediato in Castel S. Angelo da Ugo d'Arles, e d'Italia, n'ebbe in premio il vicariato di Corrado II. Forte di Cante eremita di fonte Avellana, morto il 9 maggio 1040 e che è venerato con il titolo di "Beato".
