Dicen algunos tratadistas que este noble y antiguo linaje catalán procede de uno de los cónsules de Roma, y que a él perteneció el general Moragas, que sirvió el emperador Honorio. En varios documentos de la época romana se llama a esta familia "Ecuestre" y "Senatorial". Añaden que de ellos procedió una línea que vino a establecerse a España. Lo cierto es que de este linaje hubo varias casas solares en el Principado de Cataluña. Una de las más principales fue la que radicó en la ciudad de Valls (Tarragona). Pasaron a Mallorca, reino de Aragón y América, como veremos después. Arias Moragas, caballero catalán, se halló con la gente de Aragón y de Navarra en la batalla de las Navas de Tolosa, y Beltrán de Moragas sirvió al rey don Pedro IV de Aragón, llamado "el Ceremonioso". Baltasar de Moragas y Andrés de Moragas asistieron como nobles, y por el brazo de caballeros, a las Cortes de Monzón de 1496, y a las de Zaragoza de 1522, en compañía de Galcerán Castellot de Agramunt y de otros caballeros catalanes. Dice mosén Jaime Febrer, que Guillermo M., noble catalán, dio su consejo al rey don Jaime I de Aragón cuando éste redactó los fueron y leyes de Valencia, como hombre prudente y experimentado. Doña Rosa Moragas, nacida en Barcelona, contrajo matrimonio con Salvador de Fagos, natural de Ariño, que en Aragón, y fueron padres de doña Margarita de Fagos de Moragas, que celebró su enlace con Ginés de Luna, de la casa de los condes de Luna, y mestre de campo general en Frandes. ...
