La nobile famiglia Mura si annovera fra gli antichi lignaggi del Regno di Sardegna, articolandosi in due distinti rami familiari, uno radicato in Sardegna, segnatamente in Santulussurgiu, l’altro in Piemonte, nella regione torinese. Al ramo sardo, con solenne diploma datato 13 giugno 1778, Sua Maestà Vittorio Amedeo II, re di Sardegna, si degnò di concedere il titolo di cavaliere e l’uso delle armi gentilizie in favore di Donna Maura, nonché dei figli di primo letto, maschi e femmine, nati dal compianto Giovanni Pietro Maria Mura, e di tutti i loro discendenti sia maschi che femmine. Con ulteriore diploma, emesso nella medesima data, Sua Maestà si compiacque altresì di conferire il titolo di nobile, con uguale facoltà di trasmissione. Il nome di Don Giovanni Pietro Mura compare nell’elenco dei Nobili e Cavalieri redatto nel 1822 dal Regio Prefetto della Provincia di Cagliari e trasmesso alla Regia Segreteria di Stato e di Guerra presso il Viceré di Sardegna, in occasione dell’incoronazione di re Carlo Felice.
