Mediante diploma del 22 sett. 1503, Guido Ubaldo I duca d'Urbino, creando cavaliere aurato Martino di Lorenzo da Sansepolcro (Arezzo), concedette a lui e ai suoi successori in perpetuo la signoria della Massetta con le ville di Pagno, Tivo e Casalecchio, signoria che venne poi esercitata dalla famiglia Pasetta con titolo comitale. Da quest'investitura ebbe origine la consuetudine d'aggiungere al nome di famiglia il suffisso "della Masetta" o "della Massa"; anzi col tempo tale consuetudine si generalizzò talmente che il predicato feudale finì per sostituire il cognome, e furono necessarie una sentenza del tribunale di Forlì in data 31 lug. 1909 e un'altra di quello di Brescia in data 20 ott. successivo per autorizzare l'uso del duplice cognome in luogo di quest'ultimo solo.
