Il D'Ayala nella sua opera "le vite dei più celebri Capitani e Soldati Napoletani" dice questa famiglia originaria di Verona, dalla nobile famiglia di quella città e diramata prima a Venezia poi in Bari. Ignazio fu cadetto militare nei reggimenti nazionali; Eugenio fu Intendente Generale dell'Esercito. Dal detto Eugenio, che nel 1787 ottenne novella aggregazione al patriziato barese, e dalla sua consorte Brigida Plumjett di Belgnec, di nobile famiglia irlandese, furono fra gli altri figliuoli, procreati: Giuseppe, Giovan Battista e Gabriele tre valorosi militari.
