Provém esta família de Rui Gonçalves Pedroso, senhor do couto de Pedroso, junto do Porto e de sua mulher Mor Gomes Velho, de quem parece que foi filha D. Leonor Gonçalves Pedroso, casada com Pedro Anes de Araújo, filho sucessor de Gonçalo Rodrigues de Araujo, Vassalo de D. Fernando I, e de sua mulher D. Froilhe de Magalhães. Pedro Anes de Aráujo foi senhor da casa paterna, das terras de Vilar de Vacas, Casal das Donas, Barros,etc.Pertigueiro-mor de Cela Nova, vassalo de D. João I, que lhe confirmou Lindoso em 16.8.1397, dando-lhe a Alcaidaria-mor. Esteve com Lopo Gomes de Lira na defesa de Ponte do Lima contra D. João I, que lhe perdoou e confirmou as terras portuguesas que possuía e lhe deu em tença as de Lindoso em 20.5.1398. Teve esse casal vários filhos que seguiram os apelidos de Araújo e Velho de Araújo, e um que seguiu o de Pedroso e se chamou Rui Gonçalves de Pedroso, como seu avô materno, o qual sucedeu no Senhorio do Couto de Pedroso e viveu no Soajo, deixando ilustre geração entre a qual Fernando do Porto Pedroso, de Viana da Foz do Lima, a quem D.João III concedeu em 12.11.1548 Carta de Brasão com estas armas. Igual Mercê Régia tiveram, em 3.8.1790, Joaquim de Melo Pedroso de Lima,natural do Porto, Capitão do regimento de Diu, na India; em 8.8.1797 Simão Caldeira Pedroso de Magalhães, Cavaleiro da Ordem de S.Tiago, e Capitão-Mor do Cacheu, Guiné; ou em 20.1.1802, António Diogo Pedroso Barreto, de Valença.Timbre: um lobo do escudo. ...
