Nobility crown PiccinelliIl cognome di questa nobile famiglia bergamasca è antichissimo. Proviene dal nome personale Pietro per il tramite di due diminutivi, che ebbe successivamente nella forma dialettale, cioè Pecino e Pecinello. Già nel 1164 il notaio Trabucco (Arch. di Astino, dall'Angelini, famiglie, ms. nella Civica Biblioteca c. 364 v.) dà notizia di un Giovanni Piccinelli. Il campo d'azzurro, la pelliccia d'ermellino ed i tre gigli che questa famiglia da secoli porta nel primo punto della sua arma, erano nell'arma della famiglia, ora estinta, dei conti Pelliccioli. (Pagano, pagine 169, e 207). La famiglia nobile si trasferì da Nembro a Scanzo nel secolo XVII e vi fiorì dando uomini illustri nella giurisprudenza e nella medicina, nelle industrie e nelle scienze, e distinguendosi anche per nobili parentadi.
