Nobility crown PolcenigoLa prima notizia del castello di Polcenigo in Friuli risale al 963, nel quale anno, il 10 settembre, l'imperatore Ottone donava a Giovanni, vescovo di Belluno, i castelli di Oderzo, Paucinicho e Cavazzo, (Verci: Storia Marca Treving., I, 8). Il Piloni afferma che detto vescovo Giovanni circa il 973 aveva concesso a tal Fantuccio milite, che lo aveva servito nelle sue belliche imprese in Friuli, molte terre, le quali andavano "dal Monte Cavallo a Cavolano ed d'indi al prato Paderno: et poi ali coliselli di Campagna sino a pietra Pagana et al fiume della Livenza, costituendolo suo avvocato" (Historie di Belluno, II, 66). Tutte terre nella regione dove sorgeva il castello di Polcenigo, e dove si vedono ancora le sue imponenti rovine. L'illustre geografo friulano Giovanni Marinelli suppose che codesto Fantuccio fosse il capostipite dei signori di Polcenigo, ai quali sembra spettasse il Monte Cavallo sino dall'alto medio evo ...
