E' una delle più illustri e potenti famiglie trevigiane, di antichissima origine, proveniente da Pola. Bonifacio, eletto nel 1269 podestà di Treviso, ebbe per primo rapporti con questa città; egli è storicamente nipote di altro Bonifacio, vivente nel 1150, dal quale discende pure quel Monfiorido, feudatario del patriarca d'Aquileia, che ebbe notevole parte nella storia del patriarcato in quei tempi. La famiglia prese stabile dimora in Treviso, verso la fine del secolo XIV, e fin da allora viene citata nei documenti con qualifiche comitali. Ascritti fino da quel tempo fra i nobili trevigiani, ebbero notevole importanza nella vita cittadina avendovi cospicue ricchezze e palazzo notevole.
