La nobile schiatta dei Postiglione, già detta "Postillón" e di presunta origine spagnola, vanta un antico blasonamento che, seguendo i sovrani aragonesi, trovò stabile dimora dapprima nel Regno di Napoli, irradiandosi poi in più regioni d’Italia. L’attuale cognominizzazione, sortita da alterazioni fonetiche e manoscritte dell’originario "Postillón", si intreccia altresì alla memoria dell’omonimo castello in provincia di Salerno, edificato nell’XI secolo sotto Guglielmo di Postiglione. È verosimile che il casato, sorto in Campania, abbia peregrinato in Ispania per poi far ritorno alle patrie contrade.
