Noblesse militare qui compte parmi ses membres: les seigneurs de Cubelles près Saugues, de Champagnac, de Baume, de la Peyre, etc. On trouve son nom diversement écrit Quinard ou Quinart. Filiation depuis René de Quinart alias du Fau, écuyer de l'écurie du Roi en 1485. Joseph-Gabriel, écuyer, seigneur de la Payre et de Champagnac, transige le 7 juillet 1716 avec le baron de Thoras et de la Clause. L'origine de cette famille est des plus certaines, mais elle se trouve extrêmement embrouillée à cause d'un grand nombre de membres qu'il n'est pas possible de relier entre eux par une filiation commune et régulière. A ce nom, on attribue un signe distinctif de noblesse représenté par le blason que l'on a reproduit ci-contre et qui confirme aussi à travers ses emblêmes, au point de vue historique et héraldique la certitude d'une valeur remarquable.
