Famiglia originaria della città di Gaeta nella quale si trovano di essa antichissime e preclari memorie. Questa famiglia si contende con altra casata l'onore di aver dato quel Giovanni, assunto nel 1118 al Soglio Pontificio col nome di Gelasio II. Godè nobiltà a Napoli nei seggi di Porto e Portanuova e a Cosenza. Nel 1653 fu ricevuta per giustizia nell'ordine di Malta ove occupò i maggior uffici, e nel 1795 in quello Costantiniano. Fu decorata in due rami, oggi esinti, dei titoli di duca di S. Nicola e marchese di Montepagano (1644), passanti in altre famiglie, e per successione Mormile, Confalone, Capuano e Trapani del titolo di conte di S. Angelo Limosano. Venne insignita del real Ordine di S.
