Di questa casata notiamo un Don Pio Rajola da Gircolano, canonico vivente nel XVI secolo; un Dominicus Rajola dottore in l'una e l'altra legge vivente nel 1722. Secondo alcune ricostruzioni araldica, essa sarebbe una diramazione italiana del nobile casato francese da Marsiglia Rayolle, del quale gli si attribuisce infatti l'alias. In ogni modo, i primi riferimenti alla famiglia si hanno già nel secolo decimo sesto, comparendo alcuni Raiola in qualità di proprietari terrieri nel Regno di Napoli.
