Antica ed assai nobile famiglia della Tuscia, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. Essa ebbe prima dimora in Viterbo da donde poi passò in Roma. Nel XVI secolo fiorirono molti illustri personaggi, tra cui: il pubblico notaio Emilio Recchia e Angelo Recchia, cittadino romano, avvocato e luogotenente del senatore di Roma, nel 1531, e di Baldovino del Monte, fratello di Papa Giulio III, nel 1550. Si tramanda poi che un ramo di questa casata si sia portato nel Settentrione d'Italia e che, nel 1778, appartenesse al Consiglio nobile di Vicenza.
