Ancient and noble Spanish family, of clear and ancestral virtue, that has worldwide spread over the centuries, with main branches in the Americas. An ancient legend says that the family is descended from a brother of Queen Lupa. This blind young man was led in front of some prisoners that, according to a young visionary, gave off a special and mysterious light. The prisoners were located along the banks of the river Neira (Lugo). The infant miraculously regained his sight and saw a cross appear before his eyes. From this event the union of the words "ribeira" (= river bank) and "Neira", that, according to the legend, would have started the lineage and the coat of arms.
