La famille Roux constitue un antique et très noble lignage de France, dont les divers rameaux, quoique non tous issus d’une même agnation, se trouvent établis en maintes provinces du royaume, tous néanmoins reconnus dans l’ordre de la noblesse et porteurs d’armoiries dûment enregistrées dans les registres héraldiques. L’un de ces rameaux, originaire du Bourg-d’Oisans, s’établit successivement à Chomérac en Vivarais, puis à Lyon. Monsieur H. de Jouvencel, dans son précieux ouvrage intitulé L’Assemblée de la noblesse de la Sénéchaussée de Lyon en 1789, expose la généalogie de cette famille, dont le plus ancien membre mentionné est une dame nommée Jeanne, établie à Chomérac et unie par les liens du mariage à Alexandrine Chambaud au commencement du XVIIIᵉ siècle. Les registres paroissiaux de Chomérac conservent de nombreux actes concernant cette maison, laquelle contracta alliance avec plusieurs familles de bonne extraction du pays. Une autre famille, originaire du Velay, compte parmi ses membres Augier, chevalier en l’an de grâce 1233, puis Hervé, vivant en 1375, père de Jean, vivant en 1400 et époux de Sibille de Quilbignon.
