En principios del siglo XVI eran vecinos de Herrera de Camargo, lugar del Ayuntamiento de Camargo y partido judicial de Santander, los siguientes esposos: Juan S. y doña María Pérez, padres de Francisco S. Pérez, nacido en Herrera de Camargo el año 1640. Casó, en 1657, con doña Catalina de Escagedo (hija de Juan de E. y de doña Catalina de Castejón), naciendo de este enlace Juan S. Escagedo, nacido en Herrera de Camargo en 1664. Esta rama de S., también enlazó, andando el tiempo y por línea de varón, con la familia Escagedo, y de este nuevo enlace procedió el notable genealogista montañés, don Mateo Escagedo S., autor de las obras tituladas "Crónica de la Provincia de Santander", y "Solares Montañeses". A otra rama, cuyo entronque con la anterior no hemos podido puntualizar, perteneció Juan S., nacido en Camargo la Menor, que casó con doña Celedonia de Alvear, natural de Santander, y tuvieron los siguientes hijos: El Capitán Ignacio Emeterio S. y Alvear, que sigue; Inés S. y Alvear, casada en Santander con Nicolás Pontejos, padres de los Capitanes Juan, Pedro y Santiago de Pontejos S., Caballero de la Orden de Santiago, el primero, y de la de Calatrava los otros dos; y Eugenia S. y Alvear, mujer de Luis Povedilla, bisnieto del Caballero de Santiago Manuel Diego de Povedilla.
