Antica famiglia fiorentina che, al dir del Mugnos, fu trapiantata in Sicilia dai fratelli Giovanni e Pietro, sotto il reggimento di Manfredo I, ricevendo importantissime cariche dalla Casa Sveva, alla quale eran sempre stati devotissimi.
