La famiglia Soranzo, dalla quale deriva la presente, è antichissima e fra le più illustri della Repubblica Veneta. Rimase fra le patrizie alla serrata del Maggior Consiglio del 1297. Sostenne le principali Magistrature: Giovanni fu eletto Doge il 13 luglio 1312 e morì il 31 dicembre 1328. Conta parecchi generali, procuratori di S. Marco, senatori, ambasciatori e prelati. Si divise in diversi rami detti: di S. Agostino, di S. Martino, di S. Barnaba, di S. Moisè, di S. Polo. Quest'ultimo per D.R. mutò il casato originario Soranzo in Mocenigo Soranzo. Il primogenito di questa linea, per disposizione testamentaria di un Mocenigo deve portare come nome di battesimo il prenome Tommaso Mocenigo. Con D.R. 27 gennaio 1889 Tommaso Ignazio fu autorizzato ad aggiungere il cognome di Soresina Vidoni per il matrimonio del conte Tommaso Mocenigo Soranzo con Carolina de Soresina Vidoni.
