Nei Fascicoli Angioini del Regio Archivio di Stato di Napoli si rinvengono memorie di Giacomo di Cava, ostiario dell’Imperatore di Costantinopoli nel 1362, e di Tommaso, Segretario della Regina Giovanna I nel 1359, oltre a Matteo, Tesoriere per re Ladislao in Otranto nel 1404. Secondo Bertramo, Decio fu Capitano degli Archibugeri nel 1620, seguito da Vincenzo, Giulio e Fulvio, Capitano di S. Elia, e Matteo attivo in Milano. Nel 1645 Alfonso Sparano fu Barone di Poppano. Fra i deputati a Filippo IV nel 1638 figurò il nobile Vitantonio Sparano. Monsignor Giuseppe Sparano fu Arcivescovo nel 1770.
