La famiglia, di nobile stirpe spagnola, fu reintegrata nell’alveo della nobiltà grazie alla veneranda Costituzione Benedettina, sancita con Senatus Consulto in data 19 dicembre dell’anno 1746, su istanza del nobile Francesco Nicolao, il quale ottenne tale privilegio per sé e per la sua illustre progenie.

La vetusta nobiltà della famiglia Sylva trova ulteriore conferma nella presenza del loro stemma araldico nelle pagine dell’autorevolissimo Dizionario storico-blasonico delle famiglie nobili e notabili italiane, estinte e fiorenti, opera monumentale compilata dal Commendatore G.B. di Crollalanza e pubblicata sotto gli auspici della direzione del Giornale Araldico nella città di Pisa, nell’anno del Signore 1888.
