Secondo quanto ci viene tramandato, essa discende dal nobile casato bavarese Tiechier. Un cavaliere tedesco di tal prosapia sarebbe infatti giunto a Roma ed ivi avrebbe fissato la propria discendenza. L'originario cognome, come spesso accaduto, vuolsi dunque abbia subito una italianizzazione, dall'originario Tiechier sino all'attuale forma Tichetti. In ogni modo, la famiglia Tichetti appare presente nel reatino sino almeno dal secolo decimottavo quando i suoi esponenti iniziarono ad affermarsi in qualità di piccoli proprietari terrieri.
