Nobility crown TononiAntica ed assai illustre famiglia di liutai bolognesi, i cui esponenti si perfezionarono però a Cremona, presso la bottega Amati, la stessa ove lavorò Antonio Stradivari, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. Nobilissima arte quella della liuteria, mirata alla perfetta costruzione di viole, violoncelli e soprattutto violini, geniali ed inimitabili strumenti. I primi personaggi della casata di cui abbiano novella storica certa sono Felice e Guido Tononi, bolognesi del XVII secolo, i cui violoncelli erano di estrema pregevole fattura. Giovanni Tononi (1689-1720) perfezionò grandemente la tecnica familiare ed ebbe continui contatti con la città di Cremona. Ma a raggiungere i livelli più alti fu Carlo Tononi (1675-1730), il quale sul calar del XVII secolo si portò in Venezia, città divenuta vero e proprio epicentro culturale dell'epoca.
