Nobility crown Torricella DenagliaLa famiglia Cerretti, oriunda di Reggio E., si trova iscritta nella matricola delle famiglie reggiane dalla metà del secolo XVII ed ebbe la concessione della cittadinanza nobile di Reggio e patrizia di detta città, data ai Fratelli Pellegrino e Cristoforo di Paolo. Il primo di essi (n. l'8 aprile 1764, dec. l'8 marzo 1820) fu Canonico e Arciprete della Cattedrale di Reggio. Vicario Generale della Diocesi, ed oratore sacro assai reputato. Laureato in legge insegnò il diritto Romano nel Corso di Giurisprudenza in Reggio; poi Sacra Scrittura nel Seminario. Designato a Vescovo di Carpi, non volle accettare per impegni domestici. Lasciò molte opere a stampa ed inedite di Teologia e Scienze Sacre. E' ricordato da una bella epigrafe latina nella Cattedrale di Reggio.
