Illustre famiglia, d'antica nobiltà. I Trinci furono, infatti, signori di Foligno col titolo di gonfalonieri e capitani del popolo dal 1305 al 1356, e con quello di vicari pontifici fino al 1439. Il primo ad usurpare la signoria della patria fu Nello, che fino dal 1303 era capo dei Guelfi di Foligno, ed a lui successero in quel dominio otto individui della sua famiglia, l'ultimo, dei quali fu Corrado III il quale, fatto prigioniero, insieme ai suoi figli Nicolò ed Ugolino, dal Cardinale Vitelleschi, legato del Papa, furono tutti per ordine di questo strangolati nel castello di Soriano nel 1441. Questa famiglia, ha dato alla chiesa cinque vescovi, quattro dei quali lo furono di Foligno, cioè Paolo eletto nel 1326, Rinaldo nel 1365, Onofrio nel 1399, ed Eugenio nel 1403, ed uno di Spoleto, Pietro creato nel 1406 da Papa Clemente V. Un Paolo, frate minore osservante, morto nel 1391 è venerato in sugli altari col titolo di beato. Furono podestà di Firenze un Trincia nel 1386; un Offredo capitano e giudice di Orvieto nel 1337; un Ciolo, podestà di Gualdo de' Cattani, nel 1338; ed un Giacomuccio podestà di Montefalco nel 1398.
