La famiglia Turri o Turra è oriunda dalla Garfagnana patrizi di Reggio, fu detto che provenissero in antico da Milano, e che colle famiglie Torri, Torriani, Dalla Torre avessero un unico ceppo; ma ciò non solo non è in alcun modo provato; ma è soltanto parto di fantasia. Al principio del sec. XVIII si ha notizia da documenti dei fratelli Lorenzo e Jacopo Turri, di Castelnuovo Garfagnana. Quest'ultimo sarebbe il capostipite della famiglia. Esiste nella Biblioteca di Reggio E. un voluminoso manoscritto di oltre 200 pagine con alberi genealogici e molti documenti manoscritti ed a stampa, portante notizie storiche della famiglia, redatto dal dott. Prospero Fantuzzi di Reggio attorno al 1836 circa, poi continuato ed aggiornato fino al 1859 circa, con molti dettagli, anche di poca importanza.
