Nobility crown ValterramaLa opinión más admitida entre los genealogistas de mayor crédito, como Don Pedro de Salazar y Mendoza, Luis de Salazar y Castro, Argote de Molina, Juan Alonso de Guerra y otros, es que el patronímico F. resonó entre los godos antes de la invasion sarracena, perteneciendo ya en aquella época a uno de los egregios linages que mas favorecieron la eleccion y jura del rey Don Pelayo, concurriendo a tan solemne acto Toribio F. con 300 caballeros. Y de este valiente capitan se pretende que descienden los caballeros del apellido F., que fundaron sus casas solares en el reino de Asturias y otras provincias, formando diferentes ramas que a porfía se han esforzado en aumentar la fama y renombre de tan antiguo como ilustre origen. No faltan, sin embargo, autores que pretenden que el apellido F. es originario del reino de Sobrarbe, por haberse hallado en la eleccion y jura del rey Don Garci Gimenez un caballero llamado Fernan o Fernando; y otros, adoptando un orígen todavía mas moderno, quieren que proceda del rey Don Fernando De Aragón; pero de todos modo convienen en que tuvo este linaje muy remoto y calificado origen, y en que su primitivo solar fué cerca de Covadonga, fundado por un valeroso caballero llamado Hernan F., que floreció en tiempo del rey Rodrigo, y se halló en la batalla de Guadalete, el cual descendía, segun confirman unánimamente los citados autores, de un régulo gentil llamado Fernando, a quien convirtió en sus palacios el apóstol Santiago. ...
