La famiglia siciliana dei Currò, si illustrò nel sec. XIX. Originaria da Acireale, nel 1826 si trasferì a Catania. Rosario Sebastiano Currò, di Placido, educato a nuove idee liberali, a 19 anni fu sospettato di congiurare con altri patrioti contro il governo borbonico e nel 1832 fu imprigionato e processato; ma nel 1833, liberato dal carcere, si trasferì all'estero e nel maggio del 1837 a Trieste ove fondò una ditta armatrice, con navi di sua proprietà e che in breve tempo gli procurò una notevole posizione economica. Rimasto sempre cittadino italiano, con molto tatto seppe ben presto guadagnare per la sua probità ed intelligenza la stima universale nella Trieste governata dall'Austria. Coprì eminenti cariche cittadine, per 18 anni fu membro di quella Camera di Commercio ed industria, delegato scolastico dell'I.R. Accademia di Commercio e Nautica, presidente del Comitato per l'Istruzione Artieri; fu inoltre nominato Commissario per l'Esposizione Mondiale di Vienna, ...
