La nobiltà di tale illustre stirpe trae origine da Gaetano Antonio d’Ambrosio, nato nel 1655 e deceduto il 15 gennaio 1731, il quale acquistò, in data 15 ottobre 1705, il feudo di Crecchio tramite asta pubblica, benché la vendita venisse successivamente invalidata il 7 agosto 1708, e al quale fu conferita la concessione della nobiltà il 18 settembre 1715.
