Di essa si tratta in alcune delle più importanti opere araldiche di riferimento per la nobiltà veneta, quali il "Dizionario storico-portatile di tutte le venete patrizie famiglie" di Giuseppe Bettinelli, il "Libro dei nobili veneti ora per la prima volta messo in luce" di John Temple-Leader ed il "Repertorio genealogico delle famiglie confermate nobili e dei titolati nobili esistenti nelle provincie venete" di Franz Schröder. Da tali opere rinveniamo che i membri di questa famiglia ebbero culla in Altino da donde si portarono in Venezia, per rifugiarsi dalle incursioni di Attila. Ivi si dedicarono al mercato del pesce sotto sale e, una volta accumulate sufficienti ricchezze, nel 1297 furono inclusi nella Nobiltà, al serrar del Consiglio.
