Nobility crown CâmaraNobre e antigo apelido que provêm do grande navegador João Gonçalves Zarco, descobridor da Ilha da Madeira. Era Cavaleiro da Casa do Infante D. Henrique, que o armou cavaleiro na tomada de Ceuta, e depois de descobrir a Madeira lhe deu a Capitania -Mor do Funchal. Por ter desembarcado junto do Funchal, no sítio chamado Câmara de Lobos, lhe deu D. Afonso V, por Carta de 4-VII-1460, o apelido de Câmara de Lobos, depois usado só Câmara, com armas novas, falantes. Casou com Constança Rodrigues de Sá, filha de Rodrigo Anes de Sá e de Mécia Rodrigues do Avelar, de quem teve numerosa geração que levou o sangue e apelido dos Câmaras às mais ilustres famílias. Do ramo primogénito provêm os Condes da Calheta, título que recaíu nos Marqueses de Castelo Melhor. A varonia manteve-se nos Condes de Vila Franca do Campo, depois Condes e Marqueses da Ribeira Grande, um ramo secundogénito dos quais, casando com a herdeira dos Cabrais Figueiredo de Alarcão, Senhores da Ota e da casa de belmonte, deu origem aos Condes de Belmonte. Outras ilustres casas titulares como os Câmaras, Condes da Taipa, Câmara Leme, Condes de Carvalhal,etc. deram continuidade ao uso deste ilustre apelido. Os marqueses da Ribeira Grande usaram o campo do escudo em verde, e a torre rematada por uma cruz de ouro. ...
