ABA

Aba is a surname now almost disappeared, it would seem Sardinian. additions provided by Giuseppe Concas ABA / S; WING; ALAS; ALES = wing / s. ABAS, ALAS: they derive from the Latin ala, but they no longer exist as surnames, which as such, however, are present in ancient documents of the Sardinian language. In the Condaghe of Santa Maria di Bonarcado (* CSMB -XI °, XII ° sec.), Are cited: Abas (de) Marcu (99), in a quarrel (kertidu) for the possession of the easement (partizione de servis), between the Prior of the Shrine of Bonarcado and, indeed, Marcu d'Abas; Abas (de) Pascasia (133), accused, along with her husband Orzoco Stapu, of having abandoned the service due to SM di Bonarcado, despite the oath given before their father (et ego posillos to be jealous of being servos de iuvale ad Sancta Maria de Bonarcatu, to ube los poserat patre meu.et fiios issoro et nepotes.usque in sempiternum.), Which bound them to the servitude of the Sanctuary for all eternity! Both in de Abas Marcu, and in de Abas Pascasia, the "de" clearly indicates the origin from the ancient village of Abas, or Alas, today's Ales, home of one of the oldest Dioceses of Sardinia Among the peace signatories of Eleonora * LPDE of 1388, we find: Ala (de) Joanne, jurato (collaborator of the maiore - security guard - vigilante) villas Nuruci (Contrate Partis Alença- today's today's Nurèci); for Joanne de Ala, instead we suppose the origin from the ancient village of Ala, Contrate Montis Acuti, today's Alà dei Sardi. As said Abas and Alas no longer exist as surnames; there is instead Ala, present in 108 Municipalities of the national territory, of which only 8 in Sardinia, not of clear Sardinian origin.
