Accoti, absolutely rare, would appear to be from the area of Cosenza and Puglia, Accoto is instead specific to the Salento, Lecce, Andrano, Minervino di Lecce, Giurdignano, San Cassiano and Lecce, Accotto, very rare, is from Piedmont, from Turin Vestignè, Montalto Dora, Strambino and Ivrea, Acotto, more widespread, is specific to Vische in Turin, they should be of Burgundian origin and having arrived in southern Italy in the wake of the Angevins, they should derive from the French archaic hachotte (small ax), which also gave rise to the Burgundian surname Achotte, which could also have been Italianized in the forms mentioned above, a possible hypothesis is that they may refer to progenitors who produced trade axes or who, in their trade, used them.
