Etymological origin of Italian surname: Aliota

ALIOTA

Absolutely rare Aliota has a presence between Ancona and Macerata and one in the Gargano, it could be derived from a Greek nickname for citizen of Alì (see ALIOTS), but much more probably it is an ethnic form derived from Alykes on the Venetian island of Zante in the peloponnese, the native island of the poet Ugo Foscolo, now part of the Greek nation.
