Etymological origin of Italian surname: Alioto

ALIOTI | ALIOTO | ALIOTTA

All originating from Sicily, they should derive from the ethnic alien inhabitant of Alì (ME), but it is also possible a derivation from the Italian medieval name Galeottus modified in Galioto and therefore by apheresis, as an example we quote Galeotto Malatesta (1305-1385) Lord of Rimini: "... et admirationem: quibus etiam incitatus ad pietatem in eum, and religionem augendam Galeottus Malatesta, here Ariminum, aliaque finitima Oppida, Joanne XXII, Summo Pontifice, invaserat, ...".
