ALTURA

Altura is an extremely rare surname, typically Campania, it could be the Italianization of the French name Authier, or even a dialectal alteration of the female medieval name Altera, a contracted form of the name Altiera, a possible origin cannot be excluded from the name of the Istrian town of Altura, near Pula, in this case it would have come to Campania following the Istrian exiles at the time of the battles between the Turks and the Venetians.
