Extremely rare surnames, with a common Galician origin, the Andrades constituted a noble family, were feudatories of La Coruna, the northernmost province in western Spain. In the early 1300s we find in Lisbon a high prelate named Nuno Freire de Andrade, Count Don Fernando de Andrade is one of the most important commanders of the Spanish forces in the Italian campaign of 1520, in La Coruña there is still el castillo de los Andrade.
