Typically Apulian, Andriani, is the most common, very common in Bari in Molfetta, Bari, Giovinazzo and Barletta, in Taranto, in Brindisi in Brindisi, Francavilla Fontana and Carovigno, and in Lecce in Squinzano, Andriano is particularly widespread in Giovinazzo (BA ) and in Trinitapoli (FG), they should both derive from the ethnicity of Andria (BA) of this use we have an example in 1242 in a writing: "... Deinde cum vellet ulterius proceed exivit Andria et, cum esset extra portas, Andriani omnes supplicaverunt ut Andrianis aliquam gratiam faceret ... ", the presences in the north do not always derive from emigration, sometimes they are instead due to the maintenance of ancient spellings of the surname Andreani of which we have an example in 1371 in a sepulchral tombstone in Corenno (LC): "In appointments Domini amen, year Christi MCCCLXXI hoc opus fieri fecit Stephanus filius quondam domini Balsari de Andriani de burgo Corenni diocesis Mediolani".
