Angeleri is typical of the Alexandrian, Pavia area, of Alessandria, Tortona, Valenza and Castelnuovo Scrivia in the Alessandria area, of Voghera, Vigevano and Pieve del Cairo in Pavia and of Milan and Genoa, Angelieri is specific to Rome, Angiolieri is almost unique, these are archaic and dialectal collective forms in -eri, or -ieri, indicating the group of the children of an Angel or Angels, meaning that the families of the children of one named Angelo or Angiolo. We have had illustrious traces of these surnames in the Dante era with the famous Sienese writer and poet Cecco Angiolieri (1260 - ~ 1312).
