Barbuzza, very very rare, would seem to be Sicilian, with a small stock in the Messina area and one in the Palermo area. Barbuzzi has a stock at Palazzo San Gervasio in the Potenza area and one in San Marzano di San Giuseppe in the Taranto area and a small one in San Pancrazio Salentino in Brindisi. the most probable hypothesis is that these are Italianisations of the Slavic name Barbushe (see BARBUSCI), but a derivation from nicknames originating from a particular type of beard carried by the founders cannot be completely excluded.
