Brizi is typical of the central belt that includes the provinces of Rome and Viterbo above all, as well as the Terni area, the Perugia area and the Piceno area, Brizia is unique, Brizio is specific to western Piedmont, Brizzi is widespread throughout Italy, and Brizzio, very rare, is of Luino in the Varese area, they should all derive from the medieval name Britius, a name brought for example by Britius Visconti, poet, mayor and tyrant of Lodi in 1339, he was the natural son of Luchino Visconti, lord of Milan, died in 1357. but in some cases it may also be possible to derive from nicknames originating from the progenitor's physical characteristics. We find traces of these surnames according to Vincenzo Angius already in the first half of 1100 in Asti where in 1141 the brothers Grossolano and Ruffino Brizio became consuls of the city, later, among the students of the University of Perugia in 1561 we find a Paulus Britius originating from the Tuscia.
