Typical of northern Milan, Varese and Como, it derives from the toponym Carugate (MI), traces of this surname we find in Milan since 1100, in fact in the twelfth century they were admitted to the Milanese Patriciate, the family numbered ambassadors and, in the second half of 1600 also a Captain of Justice of Milan.
