CABANI | CABANO

Cabani, very rare, is specific to the area of La Spezia, Carrara, Lerici (SP) and Carrara (MS), Cabano is decidedly from La Spezia, also from Lerici above all, they should derive from the ancient Tuscan term cabano (large coat) with a thick lining) which is quoted by Ludovico Muratori in his Dissertation: Of the Art of Weaving, and of the Robes of the Rough Centuries: "... There were also pellirdae, so called from the skins; and cabani, now gabbans ; ... "the Zingarelli to the word gabbana or gabbano brings precisely large coat with cappucio often lined.
