CACAVALE | CACCAVALE | CACCAVALLO

Cacavale, practically unique, is due to a transcription error by Caccavale which is specific to Naples and Neapolitan, Caccavallo is decidedly Neapolitan, should derive from a nickname, see the surname Caccavella as an example, but could also indicate the poverty of the founders, with reference to the caccavo (pot used by the friars to feed the poor) (see CACCAVO). additions provided by Gigi Colombo may have originated from the Italianization of the Greek surname Kakavoulis.
