CADDORI

Caddori, extremely rare, typically Sardinian, would seem to be specific to Arzana and Lotzorai in Ogliastra, it should derive from a nickname originated from the Logudurese word caddu (horse) and would indicate the knight status attributed to the progenitor. additions provided by Giuseppe Concas CADDORI: of uncertain meaning and etymology. It could derive from cavaddu, cuaddu, caddu = horse, from the late Latin caballus, and in this case would indicate the characteristics of a horse; with cavaddèri, caddèri, cuaddèri, the characteristics of the knight are indicated: caddèri = a good knight. More probably it derives from caddu = callus, from the Latin callum. Caddòsu means hard skin, but also obstinate, like the Italian incallito. Caddòri would therefore indicate a characteristic of the personality, for example, obstinacy, stubbornness, stubbornness, which are quite common features in us Sardinians, in a good sense and in a bad sense! Currently the surname Caddòri is present in 8 Italian Municipalities, of which 7 in Sardinia: arzana 24, Lotzorai 14, Cagliari 5, etc.
