Caico, absolutely rare, would appear to be from the Agrigento area, Caicco, even more rare, could be Calabrese. additions provided by Stefano Ferrazzi Caico, rather rare, has a greater lineage in the Agrigento area, Caicco, very rare, seems to have originated in the Cosenza area, both of these surnames derive from the ancient Italian caicco, which indicates a small rowing boat, used above all for fishing : the origin of this word is to be found in the Greek kaiki (derived in turn from the Turkish qayk), with equal meaning. Just out of curiosity, it must be said that in Greece kaiki is nowadays also used for tourism purposes by Greek fishermen, who offer tourists short boat trips to admire the surrounding landscape (which happens mostly in the islands of Corfu and Mykonos). Regarding the surnames Caico and Caicco, however, these are the surnames of trade names attributed to the founders, who were therefore either fishermen or gulet makers.
