CALIMAN | CALIMANI | CALIMANO | CALLIMAN

Caliman is extremely rare, it would seem to originate from the area between Pordenone and Treviso, Calimani, even more rare, always seems to be still Venetian, Calimano is absolutely rare, almost unique, Calliman is always very rare and typical of the Treviso area, surnames of Israeli origin should all derive from the Hebrew name Calonimos or Kaliman. Example of this name is found in Veneto since before 1500; in Asolo (TV) a certain Caliman Cohen is mentioned in a deed dated 1547 in which he reads: "at instantia et requisitione de Caliman et Iseppo hebrew children of the quondam Marco, and of other Hebrew habitants in Asolo".
