Camillò is typically Calabrian from Reggio and especially from Vibo Valentia. additions provided by Stefano Ferrazzi The origin of this surname is to be found in the nickname or medieval name Camillò, which, born on the basis of the Greek chamilòs, literally means low (see also Basso and Curcio, of which Camillò is the Greek-Italian equivalent) ; although it is more unlikely, however, it cannot be excluded that in some cases this surname derives from the ancient name Camillo (see Camilli). In conclusion, therefore, we are dealing with the surnames or personal names of the founders or nicknames attributed to them.
